Dragon Force’s generals are by far the strongest units in the game. However, a general on his own will have difficulty storming a castle. This is where your trusty troops come in.

Dragon Force gives you access to 10 unit types:

Soldiers [Ground – Melee]

Cavalry [Ground – Melee]

Mage [Ground – Range]

Samurai [Ground – Melee]

Archer [Ground – Range]

Monk [Ground – Melee]

Harpy [Air – Melee]

Beast [Ground – Melee]

Dragon [Air – Melee]

Zombie [Ground – Melee]

Each unit type has its own strengths and weaknesses, and often winning or losing a battle can come down fielding the right troop types against your enemy. The matrix below gives you an overview of which units are strong and weak against each other.

The unit matrix is assuming that both unit types are identical in unit size, terrain effects, and general stats.

It is worth noting that the Mage and Archer units are not necessarily weak against most units, although when in close combat they certainly are at a disadvantage. However, they are the only units that can safely attack the enemy general without risk of being countered.

Unit Mixes in Armies

You can deploy armies to storm enemy castles and attack an opposing army before they reach your castles. Each army can be made up of up to five commanders, and since each commander can only have one type of unit in under their command, it’s always a great idea to have a mixture of unit types.

If you’re not sure what you will be facing – don’t forget you can view their enemy generals and see what units they are currently using – a good balanced selection is as follows:

Samurai – Taking Samurai gives you a balanced troop that can hold their own against most ground units. They also have an advantage over soldiers as they are strong against Dragons.
An alternative to Samurai is the Soldier.

Cavalry – The Cavalry is essential to countering ground units. Their advantage against Soldiers and Samurai cannot be understated. Be careful when fighting Monks and Beasts, as it’s easy to overlook that these ground units are strong against Cavalry!

Mages – Mages are great for use against smaller armies. If you are against 20 or fewer melee units, then a good Mage troop can often take them out before they have a chance to reach your own forces.
Once you’ve taken out the enemy general’s troops, use the standby command to have your Mages safely hang back and attack using their ranged attacks.

Monks – It’s really easy to overlook the usefulness of the Monks. Their strength against enemy Cavalry will keep your ground units alive. They’re also one of the few units that are strong against the Zombie types.
You can also take Zombies and Beasts as alternatives to the Monks

Dragons – Dragons are by far the single best troop type in Dragon Force. With their only weakness being to the Samurai.
Until you unlock the Dragons you can also take another set of either Samurai or Soldiers.

While this is not the only unit setup you can use in Dragon Force it’s a balanced set of troops that can hold their own against invading armies, and even assaults by the Skull Children.

However, it’s always best to check out the incoming armies, or enemy castles you’re looking to storm, before starting a battle. By doing this in advance you can ensure you have the best selection of units to maximise your chances of victory.

I hope that this brief introduction to unit types helps you get a good understanding of how to win battles in Dragon Force. If you found this information useful then please hit that upvote button, and leave your favourite troop combinations in the messages below!

Updated with new information for building a Mag for the new Luster class.

Jump to Classes:
Hunter and Fighter | Ranger and Gunner | Force and Techer | Braver and Bouncer
Hero, Phantom, Etoile and Luster | Summoner

With the new release of Phantasy Star online 2 I have noticed a lot of people asking about Mags, particularly how to raise the stats them. So I’ve put together this brief mag levelling guide.

Now there is plenty of guides out there from the JP version, though a lot of them are really outdated and quite a bit has changed since then.

So, let us get down to it.

Overall you want 200 in your attack stat, there are Melee Attack (M-Attk), Ranged Attack (R-Attk), Tech Attack (T-Attk) or Dex, which stat you want will depend on your Main class, and your subclass to a degree.

If your subclass will be Braver, Bouncer or the Phantom class once/if it comes out, see the part of the guide for them.

Melee Classes – Hunter and Fighter (Hu or Fi)

So, these 2 are simple, M-Attk to 200 is what you want. To get this you want to feed your mag Melee weapons, the higher the star the better up to 9★, until Dex is about to be levelled up at this point feed them either Monomates or 4★ Furniture. In general, Furniture is faster as it lowers Dex more than mates will.

Ranged Classes – Ranger and Gunner (Ra or Gu)

These guys want R-Attk to 200. To get this you want to feed your mag Ranged weapons, the higher the star the better up to 9★, until Dex is about to be levelled up at this point feed them either Dimates or 5★ Furniture.

Tech Classes – Force and Techer (Fo or Te)

If you are going Te/Hu melee Wand, build for M-Attk

You may have noticed a theme by now, as for our Tech users we want T-Attk to 200. To get this you want to feed your mag Tech weapons, the higher the star the better up to 9★, until Dex is about to be levelled up at this point feed them either Trimates or 6★ Furniture.

Hybrid Classes – Braver and Bouncer (Br or Bo)

These guys have a special skill called <Class> Mag, this convers every level of Dex into a point of either M-Attk and R-Attk for the Braver, or M-Attk and T-Attk for the Bouncer, this works if it either you main or subclass, and they stack if you are a Bo/Br or Br/Bo! So, while you can build based on your main weapon, I would highly recommend Dex if you plan to have either of these classes as a Main or Subclass.

Levelling Dex is incredibly easy, just feed that mag Discs, Photon art or Techniques, it doesn’t matter which.

The hero classes – Hero, Phantom, Etoile and Luster

Hero, Etoile and Luster have a skill called that converts the total of all your Attack stats and makes them all the same. So, if you have 200 M-Attk it would give 200 R-Attk and 200 T-Attk too, if you had 100 in T-Attk and 100 in M-Attk, all 3 would become 200. Hero cannot be or have a Subclass. The Etoile cannot have a subclass, though it can be a subclass, as your subclass it will have the same effect as your main class.

The Phantom, much like the Br and Bo has a skill that turns each point of Dex into a point of M-Attk, R-Attk and T-Attk. Now unlike the Hero, while it cannot have a subclass, it can be a subclass, and the mag skill stacks with Br/Bo. With the Phantom having access to Techs, it makes it an exceptionally good all-round subclass, especially with it giving a bonus increase to damage based of your Max PP. This has made Dex mags extremely popular in the JP servers too.

These guys are a little odd in that the Mag stat affects your pet so it will depend on your intended play style. I would personally recommend T-Attk unless you have your subclass as either Bouncer or Phantom, in which case you want Dex.

Aready levelled your mag up and have some of the wrong stat.

Not to worry, you can trade 5 Ex-Cubes for an item that reduces a mag level by one, you choose the stat to reduce too. These are from the Ex-Cube vendor found on the upper floor of the shopping district.

If you’re lucky enough to have gotten your hands on Valve’s Steam Deck you may be looking at how to play some of your favourite Xbox titles on this powerful handheld. While many titles such as Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 are available through Steam, Game Pass subscribers can also steam many Xbox hits using Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Streaming.

Microsoft has recently released a beta version of their Microsoft Edge browser for the Steam Deck. As well as for instructions on how to add a shortcut to your Steam Library. Doing so allows you to access the streaming service as if it were a native title on your Deck.

Before you begin

In this guide, we will show you how to get set up and get playing. To get started you will need:

Your Valve Steam Deck with an internet connection

A Microsoft Game Pass Ultimate subscription (Amazon Affiliate)

5-10 Minutes

Optional: Xbox Cloud Streaming artwork (Microsoft Link)

Optional: A keyboard and mouse

Getting started

Now that you have everything ready, let’s go.

Switch your Steam Deck into desktop mode by holding the power button for 5 seconds and selecting ‘Switch to Desktop‘.

From the desktop select the ‘Discover‘ icon from the taskbar at the bottom of the screen – this appears as a blue shopping bag.
If the icon is not in your taskbar you can press the Steam Deck icon at the bottom of the screen to open the application launcher and search for ‘Discover‘.

Within the Discover application, search for ‘Edge‘ to find the ‘Microsoft Edge Browser‘ and select ‘Install‘. Once Edge has finished installing you can close the Discover app.

Next, you should either transfer the Xbox Cloud Streaming artwork files to your Steam Deck or directly visit https://aka.ms/EdgeXboxDeckArt to download the files.
To easily find these files later, we recommend saving these files to your desktop.

With Microsoft Edge open, right-click on the icon in the taskbar and select ‘Add to Steam‘. A new window will now appear, scroll down to find ‘Microsoft Edge (beta)‘ to tick the box next to it, and press the ‘Add Selected Programs‘ button.

Using the application launcher, search for ‘Konsole‘ and launch the application.

You will now be presented with a terminal window, we need to give Microsoft Edge some additional access to use your Steam Deck’s controller. Type the following command and press ‘Enter‘:

flatpak --user override --filesystem=/run/udev:ro com.microsoft.Edge

Once completed, type the word
exit
to close the Konsole and then launch Steam from the desktop.

We’re almost there, time to tweak some settings to improve performance and add our artwork. Start by navigating to the Library tab and right-clicking on ‘Microsoft Edge (beta)‘ and select ‘Properties‘. From here we want to change the following:

Edit the shortcut’s name to ‘Microsoft Cloud Gaming (beta)‘

Next to the shortcut’s name is its icon. Change this to the ‘Xbox_Cloud_Gaming_Icon.jpg‘ file downloaded earlier. If this was saved to your desktop you can navigate to it using the following path:
/home/deck/Desktop/EdgeXboxCloudGamingArt/Xbox Cloud Gaming/
If your file does not appear, you may need to change the file type to ‘All Files‘.

Scroll to the ‘Launch Options‘ and add the following to the end of the string after the
@@u @@

--window-size=1024,640 --force-device-scale-factor=1.25 --device-scale-factor=1.25 --kiosk "https://www.xbox.com/play"

Now that this is completed, close this window and locate ‘Xbox Cloud Gaming (beta)‘ in your Library. Right-click the icon and select ‘Manage‘ then ‘Controller Layout‘.

Within the Controller Configurator window, select ‘Browse Configs‘ and under ‘Templates‘ select ‘Gamepad with Mouse Trackpad’. Select ‘Apply Configuration‘. You have now configured your controls for use with Microsoft Cloud Streaming.

Finally, select ‘Xbox Cloud Gaming‘ from your and right-click the space just above where it says Xbox Cloud Gaming Beta and select ‘Set Custom Logo‘. Navigate back to your downloaded artwork and select ‘Xbox_Cloud_Gaming_Banner.jpg‘ – again you may need to change the file type to ‘All Files‘.

And that’s it. You’re all done. Restart your Steam Deck, launch your new ‘Xbox Cloud Gaming (beta)’ title and sign in to get playing. If you’ve found this guide helpful why not leave us a thumbs up and comment below.
