<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Sonic the Hedgehog is coming to Nintendo Switch. But do we really need <em>another</em> version of Sonic the Hedgehog? Of course we do!</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you were a gamer in the early 90s, you&#8217;ll likely remember all buzz around the original release of Sonic the Hedgehog. SEGA&#8217;s answer to Mario, Sonic was everything the plump plumber never was &#8211; cool, athletic and a little cocky. Rushing headlong through loops, through underwater labyrinths and into a dystopian metallic fortress.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss02-1024x576.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-712" srcset="https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss02-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss02-600x338.jpg 600w, https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss02-300x169.jpg 300w, https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss02-768x432.jpg 768w, https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss02-780x439.jpg 780w, https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss02.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Fast forward over a quarter of a century later, and that original title still holds a lot of charm for gamers of all ages &#8211; and now it is coming to the Nintendo Switch and kicking off their Sega Ages line up (not to be confused with the Sega Ages line of apps for mobiles).</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The conversion is being handled by the tried and tested studio M2. Not content with a mere emulation of the original game, M2 <g class="gr_ gr_4 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="4" data-gr-id="4">have</g> added a whole host of new features and bonus modes, including adding the Drop Dash from the recent Sonic Mania, and the Spin Dash that debuted in the sequel; Sonic the Hedgehog 2.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss04-1024x576.jpg" alt="Sonic the Hedgehog Sega Ages screenshot" class="wp-image-716" srcset="https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss04-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss04-600x338.jpg 600w, https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss04-300x169.jpg 300w, https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss04-768x432.jpg 768w, https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss04-780x439.jpg 780w, https://retroages.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/sonic-1-sega-ages-ss04.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">All in all, Sonic the Hedgehog coming to the Nintendo Switch is great for fans of the blue blur, as well as those looking for a solid classic platforming throwback to the early 90s.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sonic the Hedgehog comes to the Nintendo Switch on 20 September 2018 as a digital only title.</p>
